Sports Events Leader, Cadence, Scraps RelayPro to Embrace Hybrid Wireless Technology

Cadence Sports is serious about sporting events. The company manages some of the largest events in the United States, including the Ironman Championship, NYC Marathon, and hundreds more. If there’s a major sporting event anywhere in the U.S., Cadence is likely involved.

To deliver world-class and exceptional experiences, communication amongst staff is critical. For instant and reliable communication, Cadence equips its staff with cutting-edge tools that include a mix of Motorola WAVE TLK110 radios and MotoTRBO LMR portables. The TLK radios allow communication without range limits. Whereas the LMR portables, provide instant communication, even in cellular dead spots.

Cadence bridges Motorola WAVE PoC and DMR LMR technologies to work together via a hybrid approach. So, management can communicate with local staff and volunteers seamlessly – regardless of range. And with GPS location ability, Cadence’s management knows exactly where its staff is located, allowing managers to quickly move personnel via an easy-to-use map of the event.

Prior to purchasing Motorola technology, Cadence utilized RelayPro radios. But found the devices to have poor cellular signal, limited accessories, and easily break. But the main complaint was battery life. They found RelayPro’s battery life barely lasted one day and required a full overnight night charge before they could be used again, since the devices could not operate on a partial charge.

Cadence initially switched to Motorola due to the manufacturer’s reputation for quality but later found the hybrid approach of PoC and LMR communications superior to that of a PoC-only approach. When you put the two together, Cadence achieves the benefits of instant communication and unlimited range.

When running the nation’s top sporting events, Cadence relies on Motorola WAVE and LMR products to get its events past the finish line.
