Chicago Fire Department Hires Haloid to Upgrade Citywide Communication System

The City of Chicago Fire Department (CFD) is the second-largest fire department in the United States. In 2024, it sought a technology vendor to upgrade its hardwired, citywide communication system. CFD’s proprietary system serves as a fail-safe backup to its other communication methods and operates on copper lines located in each of its 100+ fire stations.

Haloid spent one year analyzing, researching, and prototyping new technology to meet the CFD’s goal of a cost-effective yet modern upgrade. Haloid engineered and delivered a proprietary call box named the Chicago Fire Department’s Black Box. The Black Box is simple, user-friendly, and durable. It features high-performance audio components, die-cast aluminum housings, and high-fidelity microphones.

Designed, fabricated, and assembled entirely in the U.S., the Black Box is an American-made product built to withstand the harsh environment of public safety use. Haloid is proud to have developed a product that supports one of the nation’s most iconic and respected public safety agencies.
