AI LMR Integration

Want the benefits of AI without replacing a fleet you've relied on for decades? Haloid connects the radios you already own to real-time AI voice. Same radios, same channels, same push-to-talk. Your team keeps working the way they already do.

Bringing AI to your radio fleet - without replacing it

In a working demonstration in August 2026, Haloid engineers connected four analog portable radios to a real-time AI voice platform using a combination of off-the-shelf hardware and custom-developed software. The system translated live radio traffic between languages and returned the location of GPS-equipped vehicles in response to spoken queries from the field.

That demonstration made Haloid the first company to prove this integration on LMR radios. Real-time language translation, virtual dispatch, and vehicle lookups are now possible on the walkie talkies you already own. You keep your fleet, your licenses, and your channels.

AI Integration is built for organizations of any size, not just the large agencies with budget for a new radio system. A small church and a large police agency can order the same service and get the same capabilities.

Within weeks of ordering, the radios you've relied on for decades are connected to AI. Nothing in your fleet gets replaced.

What it can do

Four capabilities to start. Two are running on our own equipment today, and the list grows as we connect more systems.

Demonstrated

Live translation

A Spanish-speaking crew member keys up. English comes back on the channel. Nobody carries a second device, and nobody waits on the one supervisor who speaks both.

Voice lookups

Ask where a vehicle is and hear the answer out loud. The AI queries the system that holds your data and reads back the part you actually asked for.

Virtual dispatch

The AI holds a talkgroup and handles routine traffic - status checks, assignments, repeat-backs. Useful for the hours when nobody is sitting at the console.

Logging and transcription

A written, searchable record of what went out over the channel. Check the recording and retention rules on our Compliance page before switching it on.

Lose your internet connection? Your radios keep working as radios. The AI sits alongside your channel rather than in the middle of it, so two people talking to each other are never routed through it. When the connection comes back, so does the AI.

How it works

Four pieces, and you already own the first one. We take care of the other three.

01 Your radios The portables, mobiles, and repeaters you already own. Analog, P25, or DMR. Need to add units? You can buy them from Haloid, and finance or lease through HaloidFLEX.
02 Radio gateway Bridges your radio channel onto an IP network. We use the same gateway hardware that is already in service with the U.S. Military.
03 Haloid software and hardware layer Our custom-developed software and hardware handles the audio, decides when the AI listens and when it talks, and connects it to the systems you want it to reach.
04 AI voice platform Hears the transmission, works out the answer, and speaks it back over the same channel.

We take care of the whole chain

  • Radios. Keep the fleet you already run. And if you need more Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, ICOM, or Hytera radios, we can source it for you. We also house the largest inventory of radio parts, helping to ensure we have the parts to support whatever legacy technology you have.
  • Software and hardware. The integration layer and the AI configuration are ours. We write it, and we change it when your requirements change. We also provide the gateway and other hardware.
  • API integration with your systems. Dispatch, fleet, work order, inventory. See AI API & Custom Development.
  • FCC licensing. Handled through Haloid Consulting, so a licensing gap found during scoping doesn't stop the project.
  • Installation and configuration. We can take care of your install remotely, then ship you a plug-and-play solution. Or for large rollouts, we can support the install onsite.

Bring your own radios. Most customers do. Organizations of any size can order the integration service without replacing an existing fleet.

Common questions

Do I need to buy new radios?

No. The integration works with the fleet you already run.

Which radio systems does this work with?

Analog, P25, and DMR, on conventional and trunked systems. Not sure what you have? Send us the model numbers off your radios and we'll work it out.

Does the AI hear everything on my channel?

Only what you configure it to hear. The AI can sit on a dedicated talkgroup where it only receives traffic sent to it, or monitor a shared channel alongside normal traffic. Most customers start with a dedicated talkgroup and expand from there.

How does a user get the AI's attention?

On a dedicated talkgroup, they key up and talk. On a shared channel we configure a spoken wake phrase so the AI ignores everything else. Either way there's no app, no menu, and no new button on the radio.

What happens when the internet goes down?

Radio-to-radio traffic is unaffected. The AI stops answering until the connection comes back. The integration attaches to your channel rather than sitting inside it, so your fleet keeps operating normally.

Does it work through a repeater?

Yes. Most of the fleets we work with are repeated systems.

Can the AI transmit without being asked?

Yes. That's how a mass notification or an automated alert would work. Due to licensing restrictions, the AI cannot transmit unprompted; it must be prompted by an action or rule (e.g., alert).

How long does it take to get running?

Within a few weeks of ordering for a straightforward deployment. A translation-only setup on a dedicated talkgroup is a much shorter job than one wired into your dispatch software, so we'll confirm a real timeline on the scoping call.

We're based outside the United States. Can you work with us?

Yes. The integration doesn't care what country a channel is in, and analog and DMR fleets work the same way anywhere. Because we take care of the install remotely and then ship you a configured unit, distance matters less than you'd think.

Three things change. Licensing runs through your own national regulator rather than the FCC. Recording and data protection rules differ, and in some countries they're stricter than anything in the US. And since we ship US-built hardware and software, an export review is part of scoping.

Tell us the country and what your fleet runs on and we'll give you a straight answer on what we can support there today.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on your channels, sites, and integrations, so every deployment is quoted individually. Submit your details through Get a Quote and one of our sales engineers will come back to you with scope and pricing. Plus, equipment and services can be financed or leased through our HaloidFLEX program, including low and zero-interest options for qualified buyers.
