Saddened by the tragic loss of life caused by recent flash floods in Austin, Texas, Haloid Solutions, a leading provider of integrated radio solutions, recently announced an Early Warning Design Competition aimed at supporting university students with a passion for creating an alternative warning system to help reduce future tragedies.

According to a Haloid spokesperson, "Cellular-based warning systems and Short Message Service (SMS) texts don't always reach those who need them most. Power outages and coverage gaps make alternative notification necessary, and we want to support and encourage university students who are interested in finding an affordable solution."

Many experts believe that a hybrid system that conveys emergency information via cell phones and two-way radios would improve outcomes. People would receive important notifications even in areas where cell coverage is limited or when carrying a cell phone is prohibited by institutional policy.

Haloid believes that a hybrid approach — one that includes using cellular and radio communications simultaneously — is the most effective approach to life-saving communication. In December 2024, Haloid Solutions launched HaloidNotify — the world's first mass-radio notification system, a unification of both systems that amplifies notification efforts.

"Making radio-based alert systems more affordable is key," so Haloid is sponsoring an Early Warning Design Competition to U.S.-based college students. Haloid will provide free (including shipping) VHF repeaters to qualified applicants and award a $2,500 prize to the winner with the best design. Interested candidates may apply on Haloid's website. Haloid's engineers will judge the competition.

"We are looking for enthusiastic students who are committed to designing and building a low-cost emergency alert and notification system that operates over radio airwaves. Students should follow their passion and devise a system to convey life-saving alerts in the event of a natural disaster or other life-threatening weather or emergency event."

Since Haloid aims to reach as many people as possible with these notifications, candidates must agree to share their design creations publicly to reach the broadest possible audience. Full details and an entry form can be found here.

Why is a small company like Haloid donating equipment? Where are the big communication companies???

i beleave your doing things backwards , i am expert in cybersecurity, expert in advance Microsoft software, networking, i build ai computers and most people think it a joke odd NVIDIA and others watching how i build it as i doing it in way they clam is impossible , they gone so far to fic software to hardware will work together , in short they were helping me to do this and rest of people think they have something and only one business is looking at is me,

also learn ton on radios, here our problem in nutshell, most all UHF VHF radios requires lic and long test , a radio that can withstand hard abuse Motorola XTS2500 UHF R3 P25 at cost of 5000.00 per radio. However, there is ways to make these radios go over the internet, cost do so would be under 300.00 a radio, now there is league way to use radios without lic,
FCC any radio that operates under 1.5 watts, does not have be LIC, and ban with that is 12.5 kh
no lic but u thinking will get you nowhere, and u be right, , this where 2ed part of this comes in
zello radios that can pick up and receive on same ban i could have zello set up in my car that would transmit my radio across usa, , also these radios can be heavy encrypted for them who doing thing that they dont want every one here, … what we need do a test on this get about 50 radios, have radio programmer upgrade software all so same levle , them can be encrypted be for security or law that in event there systems gose down, we need cars fitted with repeaters of about 100 watts, note once set up most this wont be used, but if dose need be used it is in-place, and we do it much cheaper this way then paying 5000 to 8000 per radio lic fees ,
repeater fees unless fcc will drop list of freq will they will allow us to use unlic
also do note FCC law in the event shit hits the fan no lic required to used radios, i beleave what u saying would be shit hitting the fan,

also this is what just throws my mind throw loop USA military auction off 1000s of tents generators heaters ac units trucks for little to nothing, and most need little work if any to get them working, we can have compleat system with wreckers that can go throw 15 20 ft watter , to clear roads, we never ever have taken advanage of this

who would service this stuff , our very own vets who was train on it, and this could be done in less two years across the use, a public sercury force, made up of vets and police that is no longer working , . that can be on sight where impossible for police to get to , or even get the police to sights they can’t get in to,

we do have the ability to do this we refuse to see what we have , and refuse to adjust laws to allow us to use things will be needed , without red tape, problem is us we have all we need, problem is we don’t have people to come together to pull all this together, and have be done each city each state , and across state line, which means we have drive trucks with no plates, and states will have adjust laws to allow it for us to make this work , but i going warn you

they never told no one how bad bad will get, rain will in cress 10 times, the amount, this has been cover up, don’t need beleave me u see it in life,
we need on sight ways to clean water to make it safe to drink , these systems been made,
this can be done problem is to pull all this together will take lot money and will take lot people to help that no longer works, but knows what they working on , tents homes schools no longer used should all be taken over for rescue and recovery , no one done anything , and when i say worst rain amounts we get will take down 20% of all dams in usa, the amount of water we talking about is something one cant put numbers on was do to event in 2022
and it will get so much worst unless we ack now

we need older high power transmitter and way keep cell towers up and running and fall back plane then this cant be done we have no such ideas in the works,
